A Historical Legacy for Universal Health Coverage in the Republic of Korea: Moving Towards Health Coverage and Financial Protection in Uganda Comment on "Health Coverage and Financial Protection in Uganda: A Political Economy Perspective"

Since 2001, when Uganda abolished user fees to improve the accessibility of healthcare, out-of-pocket costs still account for 42% total health expenditure. Even if universal coverage (UHC) is achieved on demand-side, government authorities face political and economic challenges due soaring burden diseases. Therefore, this study aimed re-analyze implementation process according three pillars by World Health Organization (WHO) based Korean UHC-related articles. In terms breadth, national insurance (NHI) in Korea UHC was established from 1977 employees 1989 self-employed. depth, benefit packages have expanded essential medical services expensive care (ultrasono, computerized tomography, etc) including period. Finally, height coverage, has tried relieve financial households with catastrophes enhance plan major diseases till now. This historical legacy can pose lessons policy-makers developing countries Ghana.
